Students' suicide: Protest in Bangalore
Bangalore, March 19: A day after their death, people protested in Bangalore demanding strong actions against school principal and other teachers who punished the two students for playing Holi.

Two high school students -- 16-year-old J Priyanka and 15-year-old Sonali Gupta committed suicide on Tuesday, March 18 allegedly for being punished for their poor academic performance and also participating in Holi celebrations.

The two students of SSLC and 9th standard respectively at Mary Immaculate English School in Adugodi stepped out of their school after they were punished for playing Holi on the campus and reached Sankey Tank where they tied their hands with school uniform tie before jumping into the lake.

A security guard later found their abandoned bags near the tank and alerted the police control room. Their school bags were kept on the bench along with their shoes and socks, which were kept neatly on the walking pavement of the tank.

The two girls accused their teachers of humiliating them and left a suicide note which was found from their school bags.

Priyanka's mother claimed that she was aware of her daughter's poor academic performance and blamed the school authority to punish the girls just for playing Holi inside school premise.

Bangalore Police lodged a case of unnatural death and summoned school principal and teachers for questioning.
