DA case: J Jalayalithaa gets 4-year jail

Bangalore, Sept 27: A special court in Bangalore on Saturday pronounced four years of imprisonment for Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa in connection to the disproportionate assets (DA) case, reports said. She was reportedly slapped a fine of Rs 100 crore. Jayalalithaa was also set to give up the chief minister's post and was disqualified from contesting polls for six years.

Three other persons apart from Jayalalithaa were also found guilty. They were reportedly slapped Rs 25 crore fine each.

The Tamil Nadu chief minister was convicted in the case that has dragged for nearly two decades. She was found guilty under Section 120 B of the Indian Penal Code.

AIADMK supporters created a major ruckus in Chennai following the court's verdict. Buses were burnt in the state and protests broke out in front of the residences of DMK chief M Karunanidhi and BJP leader Subramanian Swamy.
