Bird flu scare: 600 birds culled near Ballari
All birds in 1 km radius of Itagi village were culled by staff of animal husbandry department which has also deployed a team of 5 officials and 1 doctor to monitor the situation in the village.
Over 600 birds including 500 poultry were culled as a preventive measure by authorities near Ballari of Karnataka. The animal husbandry department on Saturday culled the birds in Itagi following a directive from the Union agriculture ministry.
All birds in 1 km radius of Itagi village were culled by staff of animal husbandry department which has also deployed a team of 5 officials and 1 doctor to monitor the situation in the village. All poultry farms are being sprinkled with disinfectants and shops selling pultry have been shut.

In a bid to prevent spread of the virus, additional checkposts have been set up to check transportation of the birds. Staff deployed at the checkposts have been instructed to disallow even transportation of poultry material.
