Bengaluru: Sale of meat banned on Ganesh Chathurthi
Bengaluru, Sept 15: The BBMP has banned the sale of meat in Bengaluru on Thursday on account of Ganesh Chathurthi. The order issued by the BBMP imposing a ban on sale of meat will be in place for one day on Thursday.
The ban on the sale of meat comes after the states of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Haryana took similar steps. The ban on meat in Bengaluru incidentally is the first this year in a Congress ruled state.
The ban on the sale of meat in various states this year has kicked up a row. In Mumbai the Shiv Sena staged protests against the ban on meat.
The Maharashtra government has imposed a ban in Mumbai on the sale of meat for four days on account of the Jain fasting period, Paryushan.
The Bombay High Court however stepped in and ordered the lifting of the ban while also terming the order of the government as regressive in nature.
