Bengaluru: Muslim boy humiliated for not singing Sanskrit shlokas

Bengaluru, Aug 5: A 15-year-old Muslim boy's case has stirred up the hornet's nest after he was punished by his principal for not singing a few Sanskrit shlokas.

According to a reports, the shocking incident took place in a south Bengaluru school.

The student, who belongs to Bhatkal town in north Karnataka, was quoted saying as, "I was humiliated in front of 1,200 students and my constitutional right was violated. She made us go on stage and forced us to sing the prayer in front of everybody. She scolded me in front of everyone on the mike when I mispronounced a few Sanskrit words."

While saying that the incident "hurt his pride", the boy also informed that out of 32 students in his class, 14 are Muslims.

The boy also revealed that he has been in the same school since Kindergarten. He is the headboy as well as a part of school's debate team.

His mother said that the principal did not try to understand that we belong to different religion.

However the principal said that the boy was "turning into a fundamentalist Muslim"

Following the furore, the boy has been allowed to sit in class during the assembly.
