Bengaluru, Oct 15: He has been a vegetarian since childhood as he loves animals dearly. Animal lover and wildlife photographer Kushal Hebbar from Bengaluru has just made it to the finals of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) India's 'Cutest Vegetarian Next Door' contest.

Kushal, who is a final-year computer science engineering student at BNM Institute of Technology in the city, joined the contest to promote vegetarianism.

B'luru: Vegetarianism on his mind

"I have joined the contest to spread the importance of vegetarianism. I have been a vegetarian since childhood and enjoying my life to the fullest," Kushal told OneIndia.

"I love animals and wouldn't want to eat meat just for the sake of taste," he added. The engineering student said it felt good to be called "cute" by his friends in the college.

"However, my larger goal is to promote vegetarianism and animals rights."

The Peta judges took three factors into consideration while selecting the finalists - the contestants' physical features, dedication to protect animals and reasons for being vegetarian.

Kushal, who regularly volunteers to find homes for stray dogs, wants to work for animal right.

Kushal is the only Bengalurean to make it to the finals of the contest. He is among the 20 finalists vying to win the contest, the results of which will be declared on Nov 1.
