BBMP polls: Candidates with criminal records to contest

Bengaluru, Aug 12: Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections for 198 wards are scheduled to be held on Saturday, Aug 12.

According to media reports, around 1,765 candidates have jumped into poll fray from various political parties, but some of them hold criminal record.


Congress candidate KS Samiullah, who has got ticket from Jayanagar East ward, is facing murder case against him.

Another Congress candidate, against whom FIR is registered is Elumalai

In JD(S), father-son duo, Arif Pasha and his son Imran Pasha hold criminal record and are facing 15 cases against them including double murder and attempt to murder.

They are contesting from Bapujinagar and Padarayanapura wards, respectively, that fall under Chamarajpet Assembly constituency.

Praveen alias Malayali Praveen in central Bengaluru and Maarimuthu in east bengaluru are other candidates in JD(S), with murky past.

Maarimuthu, also known as 'hooch queen", is contesting from Pulakeshinagar ward.
