Bangalore Needs You launches Environmental Action Internship

Environmental Internship in Bangalore
Bangalore, May 9: After the success of the Urban, Civic and Political Action Internships, Bengaluru Needs You is all set to launch its first Environmental Action Internship under the guidance of Prof. Rajeev Gowda of IIM-Bangalore. This two-week long internship is set to commence from the 12 May, 2014.

This internship is designed as a platform for the youth to engage hands-on with issues of sustainability, development and the environment in the Bengaluru context. Interns will be exposed to relevant aspects of biodiversity, resource management, environmental policies, etc., and will gain an understanding of the challenges facing our urban ecosystem.

Through this internship, Bengaluru Needs You aims to sensitize the participants to the environmental predicaments of the city and empower them to play an active part in the transformation of the city. The Environmental Action Internship is a forum not just for ecologists and nature lovers, but for anyone who cares about the environment to come together, share their thoughts and join hands to make a difference.

The internship will be conducted from our workspace, Studio Chaape on Church Street. There will be a mix of studio activities and field visits. The studio activities include debates, roleplay, workshops and interactive sessions with eminent speakers who have made significant contributions in this field. Field activities include visits to lakes undergoing transformation, urban biodiversity hotspots, an animal shelter, waste management facilities, etc.

The internship will also enhance the interns' documenting skills through workshops. It will polish their videography and photography abilities and enable them to record their experiences and learnings in a systematic manner.

A key activity for the interns will include participants taking care of a sapling provided to them at the start of the internship. They will have to water it and nurture it throughout the duration of the internship. This is an exercise to assess the ability of the interns to assume responsibility for the growth of the sapling.

Overall, the internship promises to be a unique learning experience for all by interacting and becoming sensitive to the pressing need for a eco-friendly Bangalore city. Under the mentorship of Prof. Rajeev Gowda, this is the chance to experience Sustainability in Practice.

The Environmental Action Internship is free, and is open to students and interested individuals from all fields who are above the age of 17. The Application form can be filled here.
