Bangalore: Caught by police, chain-snatcher turns out to be a manager
Adding to the amusement was the fact that both of them belonged to well-off families in Kolkata. The duo had met each other in a party and became friends, only to start this 'business'.
According to police, the duo formed a team-while Saikat rode the bike, Sounak went pillion riding, snatching valuables from women on their way. "They are into this business for a year now," said the police.
Saikat, an operation analyst development manager, found this as a short cut to earn some extra money (apart from his salary of Rs 25,000) for a lavish life. He was about to tie the knot next month.
The duo ran out of luck on Sunday when they tried snatching the chain of one Lavanya in HRBR Layout first block. Pillion riding her husband, Lavanya managed to hold on her chain, while raising an alarm. Panic-stricken the duo rode off, but with Lavanya's husband tailing.
On his way, he informed a policeman passing by who too followed them. They were finally nabbed at the Babusabpalya junction. They have confessed to their crimes.
"We are yet to ascertain the exact number of chain snatchings they are involved in, but it's at least a dozen cases. They have been arrested and an investigation is on," a police officer said.
