In a bid to stop protests by farmers' unions, farmer leaders of various organisations were taken into preventive custody by the police a day before the session began. Calling this a cowardly act by the government to stifle farmer voices, the BJP protested in the house.
Farmer leaders had announced earlier that they will urge the government for loan waiver, better support price and most importantly permananet solution to Mahadayi issue through protests. Prominent farmer union leaders had begun a sit-in-protest outside the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha on Sunday.
Following protests by the BJP, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that all detained farmer leaders will be released immediately.
