Una, July 22: In what can be described as an attempt to politicise the case of Dalits thrashing in Una town of Saurashtra region of Gujarat, it emerged that one of the victim was re-admitted to a hospital under alleged political pressure hours before the Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi visited the violence-hit area on Thursday, July 21.
As per a report published in Indian Express, 23-year-old Ramesh Sarvaiya is one of the seven victims who was allegedly beaten by a group of Gau Rakshaks for skinning a dead cow in Mota Samadhiyala village on Monday, July 11.
On Thursday, July 21, Ramesh was again admitted to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay (PDU) General Hospital in Rajkot, despite getting discharged from Junagarh Civil Hospital on July 18.
Soon after being flogged, Ramesh was admitted to the Community Health Centre in Una on July 11, from where he was referred to Junagarh Civil Hosptal, along with his 46-year-old father Balu Sarvaiya, who sustained head injury and 42-year-old mother Kunvar.
Due to less injuries, Kunvar was reportedly discharged on July 12 and the father-son duo were discharged on July 18, after their full recovery.
On Wednesday, July 20 Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel visited him and had announced that the Gujarat government would cover all costs of their treatment.
On Thursday at 7.38 pm, Ramesh was admitted again to PDU hospital, where Rahul Gandhi met him.
One of the doctors treating Ramesh was quoted saying as, "He had abrasions and bruises and came to us for treatment. As a matter of policy, we cannot deny treatment to any patient. Therefore, he was admitted this morning."
Ramesh's elder brother- 26-year-old Vashram and two other victims - 20-year-old Ashok Sarvaiya and 30-year-old Bechar Sarvaiya also received treatment at the same hospital, but they had no fractures and had complaints of headache, giddiness and abdominal pain.
The report said that Una and Rajkot hospitals are "under pressure" to let the victims stay in the hospitals.
Eleven persons allegedly tried to attempt suicide by consuming poison, but all of them are fine now.
While denying that any politician pressurised him to get admitted again, Ramesh was quoted saying as, "My thighs have swollen again and the pain has recurred. Black spots have developed there due to the beating. When I told doctors about this, they advised me to get admitted and I agreed."
