Tapan Dasgupta is not worried about his fight with Narendra Modi

Ahmedabad, March 28: When the Congress is struggling to field candidate against Narendra Modi, SUCI-C (Socialist Unity Centre of India-Communist) candidate from Vadodara Tapan Dasgupta is not worried about his impending fight with the heavyweight opponent.

Dasgupta, an activist, although was born in Gujarat, had spent a decade in West Bengal. But how can he hope to tackle Modi, who is the favour of the entire nation at the moment?

This will be Tapan Dasgupta's third Lok Sabha contest

The SUCI leader said his party is trying to break the myth around Modi's development model. He also claimed that his party is getting nice response during the small road shows they are holding in Vadodara. He said the SUCI is trying to cash in on the local people's grievance against the administration since a lot has to be done to improve the civic infrastructure.

In 2009, Dasgupta got over 2,900 votes as an Independent candidate. This will be his third Lok Sabha election.

The SUCI-C has presence in 22 statesa anfd its secretary Dwarikanath Rath said his party is fighting against the pro-rich policies of both the BJP and Congress. "Victory or defeat is not an issue for us. Our prime focus is to open people's eyes through our political activism," a PTI report quoted him as saying.

The Congress replaced its candidate Narendra Rawat with Madhusudan Mistry from Vadodara after the former urged the party to field a stronger candidate from this seat.
