Jyotiraditya Scindia to lead Cong in MP
New Delhi, Sept 4: The Congress on Tuesday appointed Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia as the leader of its campaign for the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections due in sometime.

The Congress has not tasted success in the state for a decade now and is desperate to wrest power from the BJP government led by Shivraj Singh Chouhan, one of the high-profile saffron chief ministers of the country. The Congress generally avoids naming a chief ministerial candidate ahead of assembly polls but by appointing Scindia as the campaign chief, it looks the 42-year-old will be the party's face for the polls.

The Congress hasn't tasted success in MP since 2003 after Digvijay Singh lost

The Congress hasn't returned to power in Madhya Pradesh after the Digvijaya Singh government lost the polls in 2003 after ruling for 10 years.

The Congress has been seen banking on young leaders for its future electoral battles. Party vice-president Rahul Gandhi has been seen making key changes in various party bodies ahead of a series of elections.

The 22-member state election committee of Madhya Pradesh comprises all senior party leaders from the state, including Union parliamentary affairs minister Kamal Nath, General Secretary Digvijay Singh besides Scindia.
