The widowed woman was tried for having an affair with a married man who was her neighbour. She was proposed 2 years of jail or a fine of $730,000 for an affair of five years.
However, court officials said that she faced a possibility of 298 years in jail after judges used the duo's confession to conclude that they had held 894 trysts in various motels. As per the law, each tryst accounted for 4 months in jail, which means over 298 years in this case. The judge, however, decided to reduce the sentence to 298 years as this was not a case of felony.
The man escaped the sentence as the wife, who had lodged a complaint knowing of the affair, withdrew the lawsuit against him. The widow has not yet been taken in custody as she is undecided whether to appeal the court's ruling.
