New Delhi, Sept 3: It seems that providing security to the controversial self-styled godman

might have become a pain for

government in

. The Supreme Court on Tuesday, Sept 3 slammed that state government for unnecessarily providing heavy security to Asaram who has been accused of molesting a minor girl.

Criticising the government, the apex court said, "We are seeing on TV hordes of security around one accused. Everybody says these are aberrations but they have become the rule."

The court was hearing a PIL seeking withdrawal of security cover to undeserving people who use it a status symbol. Asaram , who was arrested on Sept 1, has been sent to 14-day judicial custody till Sept 16.

The "guru", however, remained defiant about the rape charges but agreed to have spent some time alone with the 16-year-old girl, who has accused him of raping her.

Providing heavy security to Asaram unnecessary: SC

Asaram earlier had accused Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice-President Rahul Gandhi of leveling false allegations against him, in connection with the sexual assault of a minor.

"I don't want to oppose any party but I've been told that all of this has been orchestrated by Madam and her son (Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi). So, I said, let them do whatever they are doing," said Asaram ahead of his arrest.

Asaram recently cleared a potency test conducted on him by a team of three doctors, who established that he was not impotent as opposed to his claims. The test conducted revealed that he was indeed potent and capable of committing rape.
