Monazite being illegally shipped

Mumbai, Sept 3: Thorium-rich mineral Monazite is being illegally transported out of India, a Times Now report said on Tuesday. Export of Thorium or Monazite is banned in India and only Indian Rare Earths Limited, a public sector undertaking, is permitted to expert the mineral.

The Department of Atomic Energy of the Indian government does not permit any individual or company or entity to export the mineral.
