Over 1.5 million affected, 160 killed in Bihar floods (in pics)

Patna, Sept 3: Even as nature's fury continues in Bihar, Disaster Management officials on Tuesday said that as many as 160 people had died and about 5.4 million were affected by the floods in the state this year.

The Disaster Management Department Officer on Special Duty said that 20 districts were affected by floods, out of which ten districts were affected by the river Ganga. Patna, Bhojpur, Buxar, Vaishali, Saran and Bhagalpur were some districts that were affected by river Ganga.

Disaster Management Department (DMD) has provided the kin of the victims with compensation and the affected have been moved to a safer place, the official said. One quintal of food grain was provided to each family in 20-flood affected districts apart from distributing Rs 1,500 cash to each family.

A total of 50,550 polythene sheets were distributed to flood affected families and over 2,500 boats were pressed into service to ferry people from one place to another.

Though the state continues to reel under the effects of the floods, state disaster response teams and national disaster response force are working in full swing to bring the people to safer places. The floods, according to some reports have not receded yet, posing a grave danger to many.

The situation in Bihar is under control and is being monitored on a daily basis, the official said.

In the meanwhile a safety wall has been created from Nasriganj to Ranighat and 20 sluice gate and porous points have been sealed to prevent flood- water from spreading to the state capital. Here are some pictures that show the misery of the people in Bihar-
