New York, Aug 31: US Secretary of State John Kerry has accused the Syrian regime of killing 1,429 people, including 426 children, in a chemical weapons attack in national capital Damascus last week. He termed the alleged act as an "inconceivable attack" while US President Barack Obama said Washington was considering a limited response against the Syrian government.

Syrian authorities, however, said the US was spreading lies and counter-alleged that the rebels had carried out the attack. They said the US intelligence constructed the story based on old inputs given by terrorists.

The US said that its assessment of the Syrian situation is based on inputs given by medical personnel, witnesses, journalists and other sources. UN chemical weapons inspectors are also invstigating the alleged chemical weapons attacks and are set to submit reports to the UN after they leave Syria on Saturday.

Kerry, however, said Washington already had the findings and there was nothing fresh to learn about.
