Jharkhand student leader beaten to death
Mukesh Kumar along with his driver were going to the pilgrim town of Deoghar when the villagers stopped their car in the early morning hours and questioned about their identity when the altercation took place, sub-divisional officer Animesh Nathani said.
Meanwhile the police say that the villagers were patrolling the area for Maoists, when they saw the activist's car and stopped it. The villagers had long suspected that Maoists were behind a strong of robbery, loot and murder incidents in the area.
Singh tried to argue with the villagers that he was not a Maoists and showed them a sign on his car that identified him as the district president of AJSU.
But the villagers did not let him go and when he tried to escape, villagers chased both Mukesh and his car driver and beat them to death.
Later, the SDPO however said that the motive behind the killing could be ascertained only after investigation.
