Mumbai, Aug 26: This year, Janmashtami celebrations are going to be special for Mumbaikars, especially for those, who are fans of the Gujarat Chief Minister and the BJP's poll campaign chief Narendra Modi!
As the countdown for 2014 general elections is about to begin, the BJP is leaving no stone unturned in raising the popularity graph of its star leader-the Narendra Modi.
According to reports, the Maharashtra'S BJP unit has distributed "masks" and "t-shirts" with Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's picture on them to members of 'dahi-handi' festival teams.
Besides that, the Mumbai BJP chief Ashish Shelar also distributed insurance policies to around 350 mandals, participating in the festival to be celebrated on Wednesday, when human pyramids are built by participants by climbing and standing over each other.
"As many as 30,000 members of dahi handi teams have been given insurance policies with a cover of Rs 1.5 lakh per person," the BJP functionary said.
The person who reaches on the top of the human pyramid to break the decorated clay pot containing curds in it, also called the 'dahi handi' would wear a Modi mask, he said.
Addressing a gathering later, Shelar said that the country needs a "strong" leader like Modi to "save" the country.
"To save the country, a strong leader like Modi is needed and therefore we have unleashed Modi's boys for the dahi handi, who will protect insecure women in Mumbai," he said, referring to the gangrape of a 22-year-old female photojournalist two days ago.
The famous "dahi-handi" function is celebrated with enormous zeal and enthusiasm to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna.
