Pics: Protests across India against Mumbai gangrape
Bangalore, Aug 24: Protests took place across the country against the gangrape of a 22-year-old photojournalist inside an abandoned factory in southern Mumbai on Thursday evening. The ghastly incident revived the memories of December 16 last year when a young medical student was gangraped and brutally assaulted in a moving bus in New Delhi.
The incident had sparked off a massive storm then, forcing the government to initiate fresh legislation to deal with such crimes more sternly.
On Friday, journalists in Mumbai took to the streets to protest against Thursday's rape and also met the state Governor on Saturday. Media associations in other cities like Chennai also staged protest against the incident.
