15 villages, over 10,000 people affected as Ganga floods West Bengal
Malda: Over 15 villages were submerged in the flood waters and over ten thousand people were affected by Ganga which was flowing over danger mark on Friday in Malda district of West Bengal, official sources said.
According to sources, the swollen Ganga breached an embankment at Gopalpur area in Manikchak block submerging several villages. Rescue teams rushed to the area and moved the people to safer places.
The river was flowing 25 cm above the danger level.
District Magistrate G Kirankumar was supervising relief operations. Leaves of the block level employees were cancelled in view of the situation, the sources said.
