On Wednesday, a number of women went to the state BJP office in Nampally here to present rakhis to leaders like Bandaru Dattatreya, state party chief G Kishan Reddy, city president Venkat Reddy and others, besides Naidu himself.
Naidu, after giving the women sweets, also presented them onions in a symbolic mockery of the soaring prices of the politically sensitive vegetable. The leader said people used to get tears in their eyes while cutting onions and now even buying the vegetable is leaving them in tears. He took on the ruling UPA government, saying the rising prices of onions reflected the misery of the common man and the failure of the Congress-led government at the Centre.
The BJP also decided to sell onions at cheaper rates in New Delhi a few days ago with the aim to reap benefits in the crucial polls due in a couple of months.
