New Delhi, Aug 21: The self-proclaimed godman Asaram Bapu has been booked by the Delhi Police on Wednesday after an FIR was lodged against him, accusing him of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl.
According to reports, Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital has confirmed that the girl was sexually assaulted, after she underwent a medical examination.
The victim, who was living in a Jodhpur hostel in Rajasthan, which is run by Asaram, alleged that she had been sexually assaulted from last few days.
Delhi's Kamla Market police has registered cases under Sections 376 (rape), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
The girls' parents are reported to be staunch supporters of Asaram Bapu. But the 'shocked' parents reported the matter to police after the girl narrated the ordeal to them.
In her complaint, the victim told police that the guru had called her in the name of a religious ceremony at his Jodhpur ashram, where he allegedly assaulted her sexually.
