New Delhi, Aug 18: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalaithaa has been ranked the best politician to become India's national leader, for under her leadership the AIADMK has done great in Tamil Nadu in terms of governance and accountability compared to other political parties, said a research conducted by the NRIs. The survey was conducted among well-qualified managers, engineers and business people.

Jayalalithaa has scored 86 marks in the survey followed by Narendra Modi at 81 and Rahul Gandhi at a distant third with 53.

The opinion poll, conducted by Dr Pon Moahaideen Pitchai, an NRI and senior HR and management advisor from Dubai, said Jayalalithaa and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi are the most qualified persons to become India's prime minister. "People must decide on who exactly are the right people to govern this country. They must select the best PM candidate who can drive us all to development," Dr Pitchai said.

The interviews were carried out via e-mails and telephones and the interviewees are mostly from the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council), Canada, UK, Australia, Malayasia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Singapore and India.

Seventy-five per cent of the respondents said Jayalalithaa and Modi are the best among the available leaders to take up the leadership mantle. The survey was conducted on various criteria like academic education, experience to leadership skills and mass support.

The respondents said the nation requires improvement in health, infrastructure, water and energy and for that, foreign direct investment (FDI) is a must and for FDI to have a smooth sail in India, the country needs more governance and accountability from the government's behalf. They believe that Jayalalithaa has the will power and determination to bring such accountability and can work on the lines if Lee Kuan Yew, the founding father of Singapore.

"Lee has often stated that Singapore's only natural resources are its people and their strong work ethic. Jayalalithaa can easily follow Lee way. When she took over as CM in 2011, she had set objectives of making Tamil Nadu "Numero Uno" among the Indian states. Her vision of Tamil Nadu 2013, will aim to increase its GSDP (Gross State Domestic Product) at a growth rate of 11 percent or more per annum."

The survey has also said that Modi is capable of making a big change on economic development than current Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The NRIS felt that the former is good in implementing the economic measures and will turn around the government administration.

Jayalalithaa stresses social benefits than long term economic measures. Modi obtained 10 on 10 in 'Economic Knowledge', while Jayalalithaa got 9. Under the parameters 'Mass Support', 'Party Influence', 'Faith in Secular Democracy' and 'Perfectionism', Jayalalithaa received full 10 marks.

Modi received 10 in four factors such as Education, Experience, Perfectionism and Economic knowledge, while Rahul Gandhi scored just 3 marks in Experience. In 'Leadership Skills', Modi has got 7 marks while Jayalalithaa got 8 marks.
