Bangalore, Aug 15: The 67th Independence Day was celebrated across India on Thursday. While President Pranab Mukherjee addressed the nation on the eve of the historic day, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh addressed the nation from the Red Fort on Thursday morning.
State chief ministers and party leaders also observed the occasion at other places. Flag-hoisting ceremonies and social programmes were held at various places.
A couple of blasts rocked Assam's Kokrajhar but otherwise, the day was being celebrated peacefully. Security was beefed up across major cities after warning was issued against probable mischief by terror outfits. The big event of the day was the speech made by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in Bhuj in his state in which he took on the prime minister.
