Flag-hoisting ceremonies were also held at the provincial capitals and district headquarters besides important institutions across the nation.
Pakistan's neighbour India will celebrate its independence on Thursday, August 15. The two nations were declared as separate entities in 1947 and have shared a difficult relation over the last 66 years.
