NaMo began the "Yes we can, yes we will do" era, not Obama

Hyderabad, Aug 13: The Gujarat CM was accused of co-opting Obama's "Yes we can, yes we will do" slogan, but his followers and supporters think not.

They have released a 2004 video where NaMo is seen crying out a similar slogan during the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, where he said,"Gujarat can and Gujaratis will". The video also spots the then PM Atal Behari Vajpayee, sharing the stage with NaMo.

Expected to land with the party's prime ministrial nomination, Modi's slogan (while addressing a capacity crowd of over 50,000 in Hyderabad's LB Stadium) raised many eyebrows who believed that it was taken from one of Obama's speech. Here he was encouraging his supporters to dream for a "Congress-free India."

Sources reveal that Obama had used the slogan after his win in the Democratic presidential primary in South Carolina. Addressing a huge crowd, the speech promised to change the face of US politics with lesser racial discrimination.

He said, "Yes, we can. Yes, we can change. Yes, we can. Yes, we can heal this nation. Yes, we can seize our future. And as we leave this great state with a new wind at our backs and we take this journey across this great country, a country we love, with the message we carry from the plains of Iowa to the hills of New Hampshire, from the Nevada desert to the South Carolina coast, the same message we had when we were up and when we were down, that out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we will hope."
