Mumbai, Aug 8: In yet another case of dowry harassment, a newly married woman is reported to be abused by her husband and in-laws in Mumbai, on Saturday.

According to a report, Minhaz got married to Mohammed Farooque Khan on April 25 this year. Since, it was second marriage of Farooque, his family started comparing Minhaz to his first wife's beauty an complexion- whom he had left.

By using Minhaz's dark complexion as a weapon, her in-laws demanded that if her father had given them lavish dowry, they could have 'overlooked' her dark complexion.

When Minhaz told her ordeal to her father Mohammed Meraz Khan, he advised her to tolerate everything since that is her permanent home now. But later, he filed a complaint at a police station against her in-laws.

Before the wedding, Farooque's family found Minhaz 'beautiful' and even lied to her father that he was an electrician in Saudi Arabia, earning good salary.

Meraz, who just earns Rs 6,000 a month, somehow managed to give Rs1 lakh at the time of wedding. But, Minhaz's in-laws again demanded for another Rs 1 lakh for buying a new apartment.

When Minhaz told them her father couldn't afford to give such a big amount again, they cursed and abused her.

She also complained that her husband even tried to 'suffocate her with a pillow'.

On August 2, after bearing enough torture, Minhaz escaped from her in-laws' house and took shelter at a dargah near Haj House.

Meanwhile, her husband has registered a 'missing person' complaint at a police station and has denied all allegations against dowry demand.
