Hyderabad, Aug 8: Experts have said that it won't be an easy task to build a new capital of Andhra Pradesh on the lines of Hyderabad, after the bifurcation of the state. A new state of Telangana was carved out of Andhra last month, giving a shape to a decades-old movement.
The experts have added that it will not only take decades of hard work to set up the new capital but can also leave an impact on the state during the process. They feel the biggest challenge will be to find ample land to develop a metropolis and setting up new secretariat building and assembly house besides government quarters will be a time-taking process for the funding only takes place in phases.
The problem doesn't end there either. The experts said performance of the new states created in India has not been exceptional and this makes the task of balancing the budget and revenue an arduous one. Currently, Andhra Pradesh features among the top five states in terms of the GDP with Hyderabad contributing 55 per cant of the revenue, official data said.
Examples of states like Haryana, Punjab, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh were also cited by the experts. While the first two states are still using Chandigarh as their joint capital, the plan to raise a new capital in Jharkhand is yet to become a reality. Naya Raipur in Chhattisgarh has seen the light of the day 13 years after the plan was mooted.
Economic fortunes of the new state and political stability are other factors which will also have a bearing on the setting up of the new capital of Andhra Pradesh.
