Punjab Cadre wants Durga back

Chandigarh, Aug 8: There is still place for honesty and hard work in this country. And the Punjab Cadre has proved that. While the U P Government has left no space to imagine what its take on honesty is, Punjab deputy CM Sukhbir Badal cleared all airs about suspended police officer Durga Shakti Nagpal.

Vouching for her honesty and dedication to work, Badal said,"We welcome her if she is willing to shift to the Punjab cadre. Though I don't have details on the case, I would like to have such honest officers in the state."

He further added,"Officers in any state should be allowed to work freely. She originally comes from the Punjab cadre, so she can decide."; perhaps a take on the U P Government's reaction on the sand mafia issue and the way it is dealing with illegal activities and corruption in the state.

Durga, a 2009 batch IAS officer, originally belongs to the Punjab cadre where she persued her field training. She was appointed as the Assistant Commissioner in SAS Nagar. Post marriage to fellow IAS officer Abhishek Nagpal, she shifted to UP as the sub-divisional magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar district in Noida.

Within a year of her joining office, she cracked down on the sand mining mafia, which brought her under the radar of the corrupt state officials and leaders. As a result, she was falsely implicated last month on grounds of 'causing communal tension'.

The Punjab administration believes that if the Centre is really keen on resolving the matter, it can shift her to Punjab easily with the help of the department of Personal and Training (under the PMO). Meanwhile, the PCS officers' association appealed to other civil services associations to extend their support to Durga Shakti Nagpal.
