Guwahati, Aug 6: Assam continues to remain tense over separate statehood calls after the Telangana statehood received the go-ahead signal from the Centre. Normal life has been thrown out of gear in the state as different organisations raise demand for four separate states - a state for the Bodos, one for the Karbis, one for the Dimasas and one for the Koch Rajbongshis.

"Bodoland demand is a very old and very genuine. It is very much justified, legitimate and democratic right of the Bodo people of Assam," said Bodoland People's Front MP SK Bwiswmuthiary.

The All Bodo Students Union has given call for a 48 hour bandh in Kokrajhar. The agitators have been raising the slogan "No Bodoland, no rest".

The state government's to shoot at sight order has remained effective.

Karbi Anglong has been the worst-hit region where many government buildings have been destroyed and burnt down. Two deaths have also been reported from the district.
