Actress Ramya is filing the nomination for Mandya constituency. DK Suresh, another Congress candidate, is contesting from Ramnagar. Suresh filed his nomination today by conducting a mega road show. Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar were also present. Ramya's direct competitors are Doreswamy (BJP) and Putturaja (JDS).
Anitha Kumaraswamy, wife of HD Kumaraswamy (former CM of Karnataka), will be contesting from Bangalore Rural as JD(S) candidate. It is a direct clash between Anitha and Suresh in Ramanagar.
In a decision taken by Congress on Friday, D K Suresh, brother of former Karnataka minister D K Shivakumar, and Kannada actor Ramya were selected to fight the electoral battle for the party. The previous winners in the by-polls were Kumaraswamy (JDS) contesting for Bangalore Rural, and Chelluvarawaswamy (JDS) contesting for Mandya.
CM Siddaramaiah and Karnataka State Congress President, G Parameshwara, held a meeting with Digvijay Singh, the party's Karnataka in-charge general secretary and submitted the names for clearance. The decision had to be taken in a haste because the present MPs resigned for contesting in the Assembly elections.
In a recent update, R.T. Narayan, father of actress Ramya, who filed nomination papers for Mandya LS constituency expired just half an hour after she filed the nomination for her candidature.
