Guwahati, Aug 2: Several outfits based in northeast have intensified their demands for separate states once the Centre gave its nod to carving out a separate Telangana out of Andhra Pradesh.
Authorities in states like Assam and Nagaland have been spending sleepless nights with the hope that the agitation doesn't take violent forms.
In Assam, supporters of Bodoland and Karbi Anglong states are in no mood to waste the opportunity to achieve their aims. The supporters of Karbi Anglong state have resorted to violence in which a couple of lives have been lost while property have been damaged.
A similar situation has taken effect in northern West Bengal and Assam where the Kamtapuris are seeking their own state.
In Nagaland, the authorities are facing a tough challenge from the supporters of Frontier Nagaland while the Kukis in Manipur and Garos in Meghalaya have also expressed their respective demand for separate states.
Is the northeast headed for a disaster?
