Incessant rains flood Madikeri Taluk

Madikeri (Coorg), July 25:Most regions in the Madikeri taluk were flooded after continuous rains occurred for the past 10-15 days. It is said that the water level in Harangi dam went as high as 2,854.32 feet. Some of the affected areas in the Taluk are Sampaje, Shanthalli, Shanivarasantha, Srimangala, Bhagamandala village and others.

Due to incessant rainfall, landslides occurred in many places, blocking roads and isolating villages. The district administration is extending help to the local people by providing them food. Official reports state that the area has received 200-300 inches of rain in the last 10 days, which has destroyed the crops. Approximately 200 acres of paddy fields have been destroyed in the rains. Tehsildar Anil Kumar visited the taluk to survey the situation there.

Heavy to very rainfall would occur at one or two places over coastal Karnataka, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Odisha, east Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Kerala.
