Reliance Telecom Ltd (RTL), which has been facing trial in the telecom scam, on Monday, July 22 moved the apex court. The company, in its plea, mentioned about the Supreme Court's previous plea restraining all other courts, including high court, from entertaining any plea arising out of 2G scam case.
The company also claimed that 2G trial is almost complete and summoning Mr and Mrs Ambani would not serve any purpose at this stage.
A Delhi court earlier had accepted CBI's plea of summoning the Ambanis. Mr and Mrs Ambani were among those 13 witnesses who would be examined in the court as prosecution witnesses. Special CBI judge OP Saini had said, "I find that examination of these witnesses is necessary for just decision of the case..."
The investigative agence -- Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) wanted to ascertain the alleged investment of over Rs 990 crore by Reliance ADA Group companies in Swan telecom Pvt Ltd.
The agency contended Anil Ambani, who is the Chairman of Reliance ADA Group, would be able to "throw light" on the issues of the alleged investment by his group companies.
