Chennai, July 19: A 18-year-old woman was recently found dead in a room at the university campus in Liverpool in the United Kingdom. Although it was alleged to be a case of suicide, the woman's police officer father refused to agree.

The deceased, Georgina Thomsson, went to the UK university last year to study aerospace engineering. Her body was discovered in a room at the campus in Edge Hill, Liverpool, on July 12.

Georgina's father, S Thomsson, an officer posted at JJ Nagar, rushed to Liverpool but told the media that he was not allowed to see his daughter's body for a couple of days there, which raised suspicion about foul play.

He said the room where his daughter's body was found had no ceiling fan or iron rod and questioned how she could hang herself. The local police did not treat the incident as something suspicious and said an inquiry into the cause of the death was due to be held at the Liverpool Coroner's Office. The coroner was waiting for a few inquiry results, it was learnt. The body would be released thereafter, sources in the coroner's office said.

The university authorities said they were assisting Merseyside Police in their probe. The father reportedly approached the Indian High Commission for financial assistance for the body's repatriation.

Gerorgina wanted to become an astronaut. She had not been in touch with her family regularly and reportedly wrote about her illness in one of her last emails to the family members a few months ago.
