Bangalore July 19: Former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam will inaugurate an event here on Saturday to mark Sikshana Foundation's ten years of work in the field of social development. The decennial event will be held at Janajyoti Auditorium, Central College campus. Dr Kalam will deliver the key address along with the guest of honour Kimmane Rahnakar, primary and secondary education minister of Karnataka.
Sikhshana Foundation, a social enterprise NGO, was started in 2002 with the vision to ensure quality education for each child. To achieve this, the organisation has partnered with the Karnataka state government to work in rural and semi-urban schools.
The organisation runs programmes in schools to create interest in the children to learn and encourage teachers to focus on delivery of quality education to every child.
Dr Abdul Kalam will then interact with children from government schools and felicitate teachers who have been nominated for the Gurupuraskar Award.
Today, Sikshana Foundation caters to 1,80,000 children across 1,115 schools in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
