NHRC serves notices on Ballia admin,seeks reply on boy's death

New Delhi, Jul 17: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued notices to district authorities of Ballia, Uttar Pradesh in connection with the Ballia baby death case, in which an eight-month-old baby died after a rickshaw puller allegedly administered him an injection.

According to an NHRC statement issued today, the Commission served notices to the District Magistrate, Chief Medical Officer and Superintendent of Police of Ballia in Uttar Pradesh, calling for reports within two weeks.

The notices were issued after the rights panel took suo-motu cognisance of media reports, which said that an eight-month-old baby, admitted to the district hospital of Ballia in Uttar Pradesh died when a rickshaw puller allegedly administered an injection on the directions of a doctor present on duty.

The Commission has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of right to health of the child.
