Kolkata, July 17: Does the capital of West Bengal still deserve the 'cultural capital of India' tag? In what could be one of the shameful incident of attack against women recorded in recent past, a French couple was chased by motorcycle-borne goons through the avenues in a well-known residential complex in southern Kolkata on Saturday night, with one of the chasers revealing his intention to "f***" the woman, reported The Telegraph on Tuesday.

As per the version of the French nationals, they were returning from a party at Alliance Francaise du Bengale where the male companion works as a senior official and after visiting a friend, the duo was on their way to the woman's residence in Jodhpur Park at 2 am.

When they were walking towards her house after getting off the taxi near Jodhpur Park Market, the motorbike came from behind and slowed down near them, the report said.

When the man asked them to leave, they went but returned soon. Sensing trouble, the man asked his friend to move away and tried to divert the attention of the strangers. When the woman hid behind a few parked taxis, the pillion-rider reportedly said: "I want to f*** her."

The man told them not to dare such an act but he was slapped by one of the men who was said to be drunk. He even began to unzip his trousers but the woman, who was running helter-skelter for a cover, had fled their eyes by then.

They even called up two more persons and they turned up soon. Frustrated over not getting hold of the prey, the goons slapped and abused the man again, the report added.

He tried to call the police while trying to run away from the attackers but couldn't speak even though the police responded. In the meantime, the woman scaled the gate of a building and entered the premises. Later, three local persons came to their rescue and dropped them at their friend's place. The woman was completely traumatised.

They lodged a police complaint on Sunday with Bengali-speaking friends and four persons were arrested. One among them was released on bail later.
