Govt-run school hostel inmates protest poor water supply
There is a lone bore well in the school premises, catering to the needs of 170 boarders and another 200 regular students of Class IV to X. The boarders left the hostels on Monday evening after the authorities failed to solve the water crisis, despite several protests, sources said.
"I think this was the only way to draw attention of the administration to the perennial problem," said a student. Gajapati district welfare officer (DWO) Satyabrata Das, along with other officials rushed to Mohana yesterday.
While some students have returned, efforts are on to bring back others, officials said assuring the students that the water problem would be solved soon. "I held discussions with the students, their parents and the school teachers. We will take up the issue with the district administration and try to solve the problem as soon as possible," The DWO said.
