Acid attack case: court summons municipal commissioner

Karaikal,July 13: A local court has summoned the Karaikal Municipal Commissioner to appear before it on July 17 in connection with last year's acid attack of a 23-year-old software engineer who later succumbed to her injuries.

The Judicial Magistrate Court ordered the Municipal Commissioner to submit the layout of the MMG Nagar in the town where the incident was reported to have taken place on November 14 last year.

Vinodhini, a B.Tech graduate working in a private firm, had gone home for Diwali celebrations when she faced an acid attack at a bus terminus at Karaikal by a construction worker, Suresh whose overtures she rejected. He was later arrested.

Counsel for Suresh argued that he was not involved in the incident and demanded that the layout of MMG Nagar, where the incident was reported to have taken place, be submitted at the court.

Following this, Magistrate Vaidyanathan issued summons to the Municipal Commissioner. Vinodhini succumbed to her injuries on February 12 this year at the Kilpauk Meddical College at Chennai. The trial began on April 24.
