Ramzan
New Delhi, July 10: Ramzan, the holy month of fasting for Muslims, will begin from tomorrow. The announcement was made today by Shahi Imam of Fatehpuri mosque Maulana Mufti Mukarram Ahmed.

"As new moon was not sighted yesterday and today is the 30th day of Shaban, the eighth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, the ninth month Ramzan will begin tomorrow. Taravih - a special evening prayer - will start from today while the first Roza will be observed tomorrow," Ahmed told PTI.

Ahmed also urged Muslims to observe and respect the holy month of Ramzan in its totality and stay away from all kinds of sin.

"Observing Ramzan is not just about fasting from dawn to dusk each day, but it also means not to indulge in any sort of immoral activities and praying to Allah with a pure heart," he said.

Ramzan is observed as a fasting period by Muslims who abstain from food and water from sunrise to sunset. The month-long fasting will culminate in the Id-ul-Fitr celebrations next month.
