Bodh Gaya blasts disturb President Pranab Mukherjee

Pranab Mukherjee
New Delhi, July 7: Condemning the serial blasts at Bodh Gaya in Bihar, President Pranab Mukherjee urged people to maintain calm and restraint as well as cooperate with the authorities in bringing the perpetrators of justice.

The President also termed the blasts as a senseless act of violence targeting innocent pilgrims and monks. The pilgrims had gathered to worship at this temple dedicated to the great apostle of peace - Goutama Buddha. The President conveyed his prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured in the blasts.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also condemned the attack in and around the temple and said such attacks on religious places in a land of composite culture and traditions would not be tolerated.

Bihar BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said intelligent inputs should not be taken lightly in such cases and alleged that there was security lapse even though there was a prior warning.

He slammed the Nitish Kumar government for not acting on the warning. Currently, the JD(U) is in government alone in Bihar after it terminated its 17-year-old alliance with the BJP last month.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar reached the blast site which was rocked by nine serial bomb explosions. At least five people including two monks from Myanmar were injured.
