Supreme Court
New Delhi, July 5: The Supreme Court Friday issued guidelines giving timeframe for vacating government accommodation by judges and government employees upon their retirement or ceasing to occupy the office. This also applies to members of parliament.

The apex court bench headed by Justice P. Sathasivam said judges would vacate government accommodation within one month of their retirement and the government employees would do so within 15 days of their retirement.

In case of member of parliament, if they fail to vacate government accommodation within a stipulated time then the estate department would report the matter to the Lok Sabha speaker or the Rajya Sabha chairman as the case may be.

The Lok Sabha speaker would in turn refer the matter to the house committee which would take appropriate steps to secure the vacation of government accommodation.
