Ishrat Jahan Fake Encounter: CBI chargesheet details
According to the chargesheet, it was a joint operation by Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Gujarat Police. The CBI sought more time to gather more evidence against IB chief Rajendra Kumar and other tainted officials.
Kumar, who was the Ahmedabad station chief of the IB then, has been accused of planning and authorising the shootout by the CBI. He, however, denied the charges.
CBI charged seven policemen including DG Vanzara who is in jail and top cop PP Pande, who is absconding with murder, conspiracy and destruction of evidence, abduction and under sections of the Arms Act.
Ishrat Jahan, a 19-year-old college student, was gunned down along with three others by officers of Ahmedabad crime branch on the outskirts of the city. It was alleged that the group was planning to assassinate Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on behalf of Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba.
