Ahmedabad, July 3: The CBI is likely to file its chargesheet in the 2004 Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case in a special court here on Wednesday. The chargesheet is likely to figure names of only those police officers who were present at the crime scene, sources reportedly said.

The likely names in the chargesheet are Gujarat encounter specialists DG Vanzara, JG Parmar, NK Amin and Trun Barot. Senior officers like PP Pandey and Kumar Kaushik are not likely o be named.

The alleged role of a senior IB official in the incident has sparked off a crisis in the government. The home ministry is reportedly trying to shield Rajendra Kumar, currently the special director of the IB, from being arrested. Sources said that Kumar's name will be included in CBI's second chargesheet.

It was also said that the CBI will demand more time from the court to investigate into the 'conspiracy' angle behind the fake encounter.

Ishrat Jahan, a 19-year-old college student, was gunned down along with three others by officers of Ahmedabad crime branch on the outskirts of the city. It was alleged that the group was planning to assassinate Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on behalf of Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Kumar, who was the Ahmedabad station chief of the IB then, has been accused of planning and authorising the shootout by the CBI. He, however, denied the charges.
