U'khand: 10,000 could be dead, fears Assembly Speaker
Dehradun: Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal said that more than 10,000 people may have died in the flash floods and landslides that have ravaged the state since June 16.
Kunjal has made this estimate after seeing the enormous scale of devastation while touring the state.
Earlier Kunjal said that the death toll could be around 5,000 to 10,000 while he made a tour to Grahwal.
"But after five to six days of rescue operation, the bodies that are recoverd by the rescue team and going by the general opinion, he feel the number could be more than 10,000".
Over one lakh people have been rescued so far from the rescue team led by the army and the Air force, still there are 1,000 of people still remain stranded and 3,000 people goes missing in the holy town of Badrinath.
