Delhi, June 25: As help flows in from all quarters of the country for the flood relief in Uttarakhand, prison inmates in Tihar are not far behind. A section of prisoners, together with the staff have donated Rs 10 lakh for the Uttarakhand victims, informed an offical.

"They seemed very worried about the flood victims. It is good to see them getting transformed by a situation," said an official. Director General of Prisons, Vimla Mehra, had handed over the Rs 10 lakh-cheque to Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

"We want this to be utilised in the best possible way," said one of the inmates. Confirming this, the jail officials further added," the jail inmates have collected the amount from their daily wages and the highest amount that has been collected is Rs 3.5 lakh that was contributed by the inmates of jail number 3."

"Our prayers are with the stranded and with the deceased. I hope everything gets fine as soon as possible," said another inmate. This sentiment flows through almost all the cells in the jail, but the interesting fact is that this is gradually transforming them to more sensitive human beings.
