Narendra Modi to visit flood-affected Uttarakhand

Ahmedabad, June 21: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will on Saturday visit Kedarnath and other areas of Uttarakhand which have been hit by severe natural disaster. He will also make an aerial survey of the disaster-hit areas.

The Modi government has also pledged a financial assistance of Rs 2 crore to the Uttarakhand government.

The Gujarat state government also started a flight service between Dehradun and Ahmedabad to bring the affected tourists from the ravaged state back home. A Gujarat government official said the state government procured two aircraft for transferring the people. A team was also sent to coordinate relief and rescue work and also help the people of Gujarat left stranded in uttarakhand.

Preliminary reports said more than 5,000 people from gujarat had gone to Uttarakhand on holidays and pilgrimage and over a 12 have died so far. the toll is expected to rise further, the official said.

The state opposition, Congress, has also sent a high-level team to help the rescue operation in Uttarakhand.
